About Me
My name is Ruth and I run Amethyst Counselling & Supervision, based in Adlington close to Chorley and Horwich.
I am an experienced and fully qualified trauma informed and neurodivergent affirming counsellor, EMDR therapist, Certified EFT Practitioner, NLP Master Practitioner and Clinical Supervisor, specialising in anxiety, self-confidence and bereavement with specific experience working with individuals who are neurodivergent. I am accredited with the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) and the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), which means I have demonstrated that I maintain ethical standards and work to a high level of competency. I am also a member of the EMDR Association, am an accredited counsellor for the Foundation of Infant Loss and an approved counsellor for Anxiety UK

I am here to offer you the time and space to focus on yourself, to discover what matters to you.
I believe that therapy should be accessible to all so aim to keep my fees as low as possible, so more people can access therapy when they need it.

I work in what is called an Integrative way, weaving together my training in areas such as Person-Centred Counselling, CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques - also known as tapping), NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming), indirect hypnotherapy, Walk and Talk Therapy and CFT (Compassion Focused Therapy), to tailor the sessions to best suit your needs.

Outside of Amethyst Counselling I enjoy going to the gym, being outside, reading and crocheting.

Former jobs have seen me work as a Funeral arranger, manage a Woman's Centre as well as volunteering for Cruse Bereavement Care and Trust House Lancashire. In another life I worked as a Nurse and a Midwife.

I strongly believe that what works for one doesn't always work for another which is why I place you at the centre of the work we will do, supporting you to find ways that work for you and your life.
