I have debated over what to write in this blog recently, the obvious choice would be to talk about the world right now, the virus and what is going on and how to look after yourself (see my last post) but
1) there are a million and one blogs, articles, social media posts etc. about this very subject and
2) I have had enough of all that!
All I see on my news and social media feeds is either Covid-19 this Coronavirus that or how productive and efficient people are being home-schooling, writing books/symphonies etc. and it is starting to feel a bit overwhelming to me.
Now I don’t want it to sound like I am burying my head in the sand, like I am being naïve or demeaning those that are doing well at home-schooling/writing novels etc. (in fact I am in awe of those people). I know what is going on, I know what I have to do to keep myself and others safe, I know I ‘should’ be being productive, it’s just for my own mental health I need to not see it all quite so much. So, to look after me I am limiting how much I read the news and how much I use social media, yes it is good to be connected and it is good to be aware of what is going on but is that even to the detriment of my mental health?
What do you think? What do you need to do to look after you?
Instead I am going to focus on putting one foot in front of the other, remembering what is important to me and what I can do, I am choosing to put my energy and focus into what I can, realistically, control right now. So this will be my last post about the virus. I want this blog and my own social media feed to be realistic but also as virus free as I can, again not to ignore what is going on but because it is all about balance, everyone else is posting about the virus so I will attempt to look at other stuff. While yes, the virus is big and horrible and scary, other stuff still goes on separate to that and I want to recognise that as well.
So what would be useful for you? What do you want to read more of?
I really hope you and yours are all well.
Stay safe out there.
